Sumo

Today I had a great day in Tokyo, I met two great ladies from Aussie and a guy from Canada. Small world. We all got up early and headed over the the sumo theatre and did get tickets. It was amazing.

The doors open at 8 in the morning. The rest of the schedule for the day went as follows

8'40 am - Preliminary bouts
8'50 am - Jonokuchi-Makushita division bouts
The bouts begin with the jono-kuchi) the lowest rank moving up into the seniority of makushita junior grade

14 30 Juryo wrestlers ceremonial entrance
The intermediate division juryo wrestlers enter the ring dressed in their ceremonial aprons called kesho mawashi
14 50 Juryo division bouts
Wrestlers at this level range from young hopefuls aiming for the higher division promotion to weathered veterans of the circuit. These bouts are following by a short interval known as the nakairi
15 30 Association Chairman s address
This only happens on the opening and closing days of the tourament
The four highest ranks are yokozuna, ozeki, sikiwake and komusubi and geets the crowd

15 50 Makuuchi wrestler ceremonial entrance
The wrestlers from the senior division step into the ring wearing their vividly decorated ceremonial aprongs kesho-mawashi they turn to face the crowd and a form a circle
15 55 Yokuzuna Grand Champion ring entrance
The Grand Champions yokozuna each make a ceremonial entrance in the ring. The Champions clap their hands and stamp their feet

16 15 Makuuchi bouts
Battles between the highest division wrestlers.
17 55 Bow dance ceremony
Lower ranked wrestler enters the ring to perform the bow dance yumitori-shiki
